Interview curve balls!

Now we all know when you go into an interview you will probably get the standard interview question, "tell me a little about yourself" from the Interviewer. Also, we all understand it is important to know accomplishments for each position you’ve had for other common interview questions, but after that what are the popular tricky questions they think of? Well here are some of the most common, and how to knock these questions out of the park:

  1. What do you know about our organization?
This is where your research should really assist you. This is where a little time on Hoovers.com or the company’s website can really benefit your interview process.

  2. Why should we hire you?
Now is when you greatest successes come out. Think of times you really did a great job in your position (pre-interview) and give them some of your greatest moments.

  3. Your resume suggests that you may be over-qualified or too experienced for this position. What is your opinion?
Express your interest in the company mentioning things you found during your research of the company to demonstrate your interest. Mention your long-term commitment to a company and how this organization fits your long-term goals.

  4. What do you think of your last boss?
Be positive, this is not a time for you to go into a negative tirade about the company and your ex-boss. Stay professional. Talk of him/her as though he/she were in the same room.

  5. Why aren't you earning more at your age?
Say that this is the reason you are looking for a new position. You are an extremely loyal employee but you see that you are worth more now with your experience and successes, and that is the reason you are making a change. Don’t be defensive.

The key to any interview is being prepared. Make sure to do your research so you can be impressive to the Interviewer. Practice interviewing before you do it. Your resume skills could be the difference between receiving an offer for the job or not. Practice makes perfect.
